I have had my fair share of roommates. The leases ended because of various reasons:

one was a psycho bitch who always like her juice ‘real’ and stabbed people with darts. she was the needy girlfriend in our relationship who always got mad at me when I was ‘never’ home.

two of them were complete bros. Thing 1 would always sleep on the toilet when he was drunk and conveniently locked the door. Thing 2 was a pipsqueak who was overdramatic and so hormonal at time, but both Things were probably the bestest guy friends I will ever have. Napping on the couch, scantly worn tiger costumes and lots of green body paint, NHL all the time, with grilled cheese sandwiches and stupid compost buckets. These guys are the brothers you want backing you up.

one of them I was in love with. He was the best roommate in terms of living conditions. the lease lasted longer than we did that year.

another one who is one of my best friends. (you see the description below about my most recent roommate - she is exactly as he is…times ten, of course; you could say that they are complements of one another). she is just…that good. I admire this woman.

my most recent one is a wonderful human being. he is nice and funny and very smart and knows absolutely everything there is to know about the world (and more) and a great cook and a super cleaner and friendly and very popular and has style and straight class and loves his friends as much as his friends love him (and believe me, if you were ever in a fight with him, you’d be in the complete wrong and be attacked by his army of loyal friends. i bet you anything that he knows every single one of his facebook friends and is actual friends with them) and he can fix anything and he can teach anything and he’s creative and thrifty and talented and destined to do great things. hating him, well, would be a hate crime to everything that is good in the world. even though sometimes he can act like such a little brother, there is absolutely nothing wrong with him (well I’m sure he thinks he has some faults but he’s too super of a person to fuss over them) and he’s super genuine and honest and goofy and kind and playful and witty and serious and mature and wise and there is not enough words to describe him. he is a man worthy of all the praise in the world…and then some. He’s just awesome. he values your opinion, makes you feel awesome about yourself, and he cares and genuinely wants to know how your day was. he listens and he gives good advice and he doesn’t bully you. he won’t put you down because he just doesn’t roll like that. he isn’t full of himself and won’t stomp on you. modest and giving. he’ll treat you with respect and take responsibility for things if he is in the wrong. he’s got spunk. I admire this kid. he is a great friend and one awesome roommate.

I’m grateful for both the good and the bad roommates.

He’s miles away, and you’re thinking you should take a shower or fix your hair or at least brush your teeth because you feel dirty and self-conscious.
